Parent Forum News

RESPECT

Many thanks to the parents who attended Parent Forum last month. We spoke about how the staff and the parents can work together for the benefit of the children.

The main messages on this topic from the parents were that they wanted to be better informed about what their children are learning in school and wanted more opportunities to be in school.

What were doing:

  • Knowledge organisers. This week the children will be bringing home a knowledge organiser for our anti-bullying month lessons. The idea behind the knowledge organiser is that the teachers tell parents and children what the learning will be before every topic and then the teachers spend the rest of the topic making the learning come to life.
  • Newsletters. Our newsletters come home on paper now, not just electronically. Lots of parents agree that this helps communication.
  • Volunteering. Were talking to the library service about training people to work in our library. More details to follow in July.
  • Assemblies. We want to invite parents in for year group assemblies well be putting some dates out soon for near the end of term.
  • Big Lessons. These will be kind of like the old reading cafés and maths cafés but with some exciting changes. These will be happening next term.

The staff, the children and the parents weve spoken to all seem very positive about All different. All equal. All learning as our schools slogan/strap line its really stuck with people because it seems like a vision we can all share.

Our parent forums for the academic year 18-19 will be on Monday 1st October, Monday 5th November and Monday 3rd December 2018 all at 3.30pm. If youre interested in representing your childs class please email office@georgewhite.norfolk.sch.uk

Summer news:  Our monthly parent forum started in the spring term 2018. Many thanks to those parents who took part. We still have spaces if anyone else is interested.

A different subject will be under discussion at each meeting, most recently How can the parents and the school help each other to help the children?'

We will set what will be discussed during the 2018-19 year at the next meeting.
